Anti-pull fittings: what they are and what they are for

Anti-pull fittings, also known as self-anchoring fittings, join or repair PVC and HDPE pipes without concrete thrust blocks. We explain how they work and which types we manufacture.

Anti-pull fittings: what they are and what they are for

One of Grupo Almagromur's greatest achievements is having been pioneers in the development and manufacture of anti-pull systems for PVC and HDPE pipes. Since 2001, parts have been leaving our plant in Molina de Segura that are now installed in irrigation and water supply networks all over Europe.

Anti-pull fittings, also called self-anchoring fittings, are parts designed to join or repair HDPE or PVC pipes while guaranteeing complete restraint. Their purpose is to rule out any axial movement between pipe and fitting and, therefore, to ensure that no leak occurs even when the network is working under pressure.

How they work

The heart of the system is a toothed brass ring that grips the pipe. As the bolts are tightened, the teeth bite slightly into the surface of the PVC or PE and absorb the axial forces that previously had to be restrained with concrete thrust blocks. Watertightness is provided by an EPDM gasket certified for drinking water which, in many models, is integral with the sleeve itself.

Because the fixing is achieved with bolts, the part adapts perfectly to the pipe and to each installer's particular assembly, with no curing times and no additional civil works.

Which types of anti-pull fittings we manufacture

Anti-pull repair collar

Its job is not to join two pipes, but to repair a leak in an HDPE or PVC pipe without cutting off the supply. It is bolted shut over the damaged area and remains permanently fixed.

Anti-pull couplings

Designed to join two pipes of HDPE or PVC with the same outside diameter, with a double grip ring and double gasket.

Double-chamber flange adaptors

They allow you to go from PVC or PE pipe to a standard EN 1092 flange (PN 10/16) to connect valves, spool pieces or flanged fittings, with the same anti-pull grip.

Anti-pull flange adaptors

The solution for flanged connections where the pipe must be locked in place: GGG-50 ductile iron, 250 µm epoxy coating and Dacromet-coated bolts.

All of these parts are in our anti-pull fittings catalogue, with a PDF datasheet, dimensions and availability so you can request a quote in one click.
